1 Gbps internet is here but not because of Google and Comcast

Internet Speed – 1 Gbps. If you understand the gravity of this situation then you better be ready to enjoy broadband speed which will be out of this world. Google has always wanted to launch the 1 Gbps internet connections, and Comcast was planning the 105 Mbps internet speed, but it seems like Chattanooga has come up with something that others were just planning.

Chattanooga’s municipally owned fiber to the premises network (also known as EPB fiber optics) and Alcatel – Lucent have joined hands to come up with internet services that are surely going to force other service providers to stretch their limits and that too pretty quick if they don’t want their customers do drift away from them.

The service is already available and people living around 600 mile radius of EPB network can enjoy the service if they are ready to shell out ample amount of bucks. It will be the nine-county service areas (basically south east Tennessee) that will enjoy the lightning fast internet speed for the first few months. The service costs $350 per month so think before you opt for Chattanooga’s mind boggling service.

T-Mobile G2 for $150 from Radio Shack

Did you buy T-Mobile G2 from Best Buy? I hope that you didn’t because if you did then you will have spent $50 extra for the same smartphone which is available for $150 from Radio Shack. Well, competition for T-Mobile G2 seems to be heating up a lot more after its launch though the number of leaks and speculations before the launch were way below average. We have always seen Amazon taking its time to come up with killer deals for different mobiles and gadgets but this time Radio Shack has popped in from nowhere to attract all the attention.

T-Mobile G2 runs on Android 2.2 (initially known as Froyo) with MSM 7239 snapdragon silicon which was especially optimized for T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network. The G2 smartphone has the in-famous 2nd generation application co-processor with CPU speed touching 800 MHz. This seems to be pretty quick for a simple smartphone which has been launched without any fake glitters around it.

T-Mobile G2 comes with an 8 GB external memory card and 4 GB of internal memory which surely is more than enough to cover most essential requirements. You can even store a couple of movies in the internal memory itself. Memory can be extended to 32 gigs.

The 2.5 GHz Cortex A15 revealed by ARM

While on one side the likes of Samsung are coming up with Cortex A9 processor; it is ARM that has successfully launched the Cortex A15 processor that is capable of speed upto 2.5 GHz. The cortex A15 MPCore is the well deserved successor of the cortex A9. It is said to have five times the power of already existing SOCs. This has surely helped the processor make the jump from the existing 1 GHz to 2.5 GHz. That is truly an unexpected leap.

“The launch of the Cortex-A15 MPCore processor marks the beginning of an entirely new era for the ARM Partnership. It brings together more than 20 years of ARM expertise in low-power design with a host of new and very aggressive high-performance technologies,” said Mike Inglis, EVP and GM, Processor Division, ARM. “The Cortex-A15 MPCore processor will become the next major step along the industry’s energy efficient computing roadmap and open up a wide range of new application possibilities for our Partners.”

Hardware virtualization comes with the cortex A15 and the new processor also supports upto 4 gigs of RAM. A15 comes packed with features like soft-error recovery, larger memory addressability and system coherency. The best part of A15 will be that it provided complete application compatibility for low end cortex processors. Be it Android, Adobe or Java; the Cortex A15 will support all.

icoffee: Portable coffee maker concept

Though just a concept in the making, the icoffee seems like a fantastic idea and it should provide you with fresh coffee at all the time and all you need to do is carry it in your pocket. Inside icoffee there’s a refillable water tank and a rechargeable battery that allows you to make coffee with a press of a button. Besides that, icoffee comes with four synthesized ceramic cups. Since the cups are made out of ceramic, they are tough and damage resistant and they won’t burn your fingers even if you pour hot coffee in them. It looks futuristic and your friends would find it difficult guessing what it actually is. It is white, it has metallic smooth look, and when you see it, you won’t even know that’s a coffee maker.

To be truthful though, we’ll probably not see anything like this anytime soon. Sure, it looks great and it will come handy to all coffee drinkers who’d like to have their coffee fix with them at all times. Just imagine how cool it would be for you to carry a coffee maker that can hold four cups of coffee within your pocket whenever you want.
