Choosing your Digital audio work station (DAW)

In my previous article “M-Audio Fast Track Ultra” I said I would talk to you about DAW’s or a Digital Audio Work Station. These are programs or software that you have to purchase to use on your computer. A Digital audio work station is a necessity for any home studio as it’s the program that records your music from your audio interface or mixer. Many won’t want to spend the money to get a recording program, so they will settle for Audacity which is a free windows program that records, this will work but it doesn’t offer anything else on it it is strictly an audio recorder.

I recommend everyone to purchase the program that works best for you, if you’re on a Mac, use Logic Pro as it seems to be the most versatile and easy to use. If on a PC use Cubase or Sonar 8 Producer. Sonar 8 is cheaper but Cubase offer’s a more professional user interface to work with. There are many recording programs out there, from different price ranges. None will make your music sound any better, that’s the audio interface’s job. They record, mix and also have compressors, EQ and sometimes effects to add. If at a retail store, ask someone to help you out! I hope this helps people decide what to use to record with and which program’s to look out for.
